Fritz Hudson
has died and left significant funds to his three daughters
– Allie and Des Hudson and their half-sister, Cara –
provided they restore the historical Art Deco theater in his
home town of Hidden Falls, Pennsylvania. Each daughter has
a solid motive to follow their father’s wishes: Cara
wants to get back to her yoga studio, Des wants to open an
animal shelter, and Allie wants to resolve her debt problems
and spend more time with her daughter, Nikki.
They have made some advances in the restoration and have come
to adore their father’s sister, Barney, who has been
understanding and would love for them to stay in Hidden Falls.
Most of the funds allotted for the necessary repairs have
been used when disaster strikes: a storm causes damage to
the theater’s ceiling, which requires an expensive new
coat of plaster and repairing the ceiling’s design.
When Des dismisses Allie’s offer to paint the ceiling,
the distance between them widens until Nikki offers a solution.
Still, they need more money.
Barney suggests a photo book showing the theater’s history
and sets Nikki to for photos in the attic, as well as an emerald
necklace was hidden somewhere in the house that, if found,
could pay for much needed repairs.
Like the first release in the series, Mariah Stewart has shown
the steady emotional growth between the sisters as they learn
to trust one another. Naturally, the men they meet challenge
the sisters’ preconceived notions and provide a tantalizing
love interest for each of them, even Barney.
The Sugarhouse Blues provides a satisfying journey
filled with revelation, hope, and trust. It’s an emotionally
satisfying read that’s worth every turned page, and
the best thing is, there’s more to come before this
wonderful journey ends.
