Lessons with Sharkmaster, Jr.
By Randy
Clay
Who
better to write about business management than a man who has genuinely
and productively lived it? In Business Lessons with Sharkmaster,
Jr., Randy Clay steps out of business Guru Harvey Mackay’s
shadow to write his own book on business management. (Mackay is
known for his book, Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten
Alive.)
Instead
of going off to college, Clay started a screen printing business
that eventually grew into a sign and logo company for the oil and
gas industries. Aware of his lack of higher education, Clay points
out that one can hire others to do the things one cannot, such as
bookkeeping.
Clay gives
advice on handling customers, sales, clients, and all that comes
with owning a business. I am greatly impressed on how personal Clay
becomes with his clients (It’s not WHO you know, but WHAT
you know about who you know). Most businesses want a customer to
spend her money and move on. Another impressive point is keeping
a Rolodex and using it often (The most important word for business
people is: R-O-L-O-D-E-X). Even in this technical age, a Rolodex
still has its place.
Business
Lessons with Sharkmaster, Jr. is effortless in understanding
and generous in the amount of information given. Just one evening
with this book and one can’t help but come away with a new
vision. I know I have. My copy now has its place my desk with my
reference books.
