The Art of Discworld
By Terry Pratchett
and Paul Kidby
Discworld
– the ingenious creation of Terry Pratchett, has come to life
once again in this giant book of sketches and finished works used
to give a face to the strange, unique creatures that make up the
population of this disc-like world. With the help of Paul Kidby,
Pratchett drags us into the world of the strange and inane with
his renderings of characters and places in this lovely world and
gives us something else to guard with our lives from book-borrowing
friends.
I love
this book for two reasons: I love Terry Pratchett and I love being
able to go through this massive book and see my imagination as close
to his as I’ll ever get. With characters like Death and the
members of the Assassins’ Guild…who needs enemies? I
love the detail and witty writings about how the characters were
created and how they’ve developed identities all their own
in the time that Pratchett has been writing about this eccentric
world. I recommend this book to all Terry Pratchett fans and dare
all of them to try to figure out which of the characters is their
favorite – which is something I honestly couldn’t do
myself!
