Bhagavad-Gita
The Beloved Lord's Secret Love Song
by Graham M. Schweig (translator)
Graham M.
Schweig has produced a readable and enjoyable version of Bhagavad-Gita
and still included enough information for the serious student.
The Gita is
a dialogue between the famous warrior Arjuna who is having doubts
about engaging in violent warfare against his own kin and the god
Krishna who is cleverly disguised as Arjuna’s charioteer.
When Arjuna asks if he should fight, what follows is the dialogue
between the two that covers eighteen chapters on the personal, social,
and philosophical aspects of Hinduism.
The introduction
is very helpful for the casual reader as well as for a serious student
of epics or Hinduism.
Each page
is made up of four poetic stanzas of the epic and they read very
quickly.
A warning
for the reader who awaits the battle that Arjuna is to wage: it
doesn’t happen in the Gita.
For the serious
student there is a complete Sanskrit text and an extensive index.
I
enjoyed it simply as a discussion of Hinduism and its principles.
