There but for the Grace of God
by
Fred Rosen
I found Fred
Rosen's There but for the Grace of God to be an intriguing,
informative book to read. It's rare to hear about the survivors
of serial killers, and I liked hearing about them and the circumstances
that allowed them to escape with their lives.
There but
for the Grace of God is very well-written and easy-to-follow.
Fred Rosen doesn't bog you down with technicalities - making it
a smoother book to read. I found it truly fascinating. It was impossible
to put down once I started reading it.
Zachary, Lousiana,
April 1993, Michele Chapman was a student at Zachary High School
, a senior. She and her boyfriend, Ricky, were brutally attacked
by Derrick Todd Lee. The headlights from an approaching police cruiser
scared him off, saving Michele and Ricky's lives. Even so, Michele
spent over a year in physical therapy as a result of the attack.
She still bears the physical and emotional scars of the assault.
Wichita , Kansas
, the BTK serial killer, Dennis Radar, spent thirty-one years on
a killing spree before finally being caught. Kevin Bright was nineteen
years old when his path crossed that of the BTK serial killer (1974).
It was the middle of the day when Kevin and his sister, Kathy, entered
her home. Radar was waiting for them inside. Radar tried twice to
strangle Kevin and shot him three times, leaving him for dead. But
Kevin survived the attack. Unfortunately, his sister did not.
Tampa Bay ,
Florida , November 3, 1984, Lisa McVey was riding her bicycle home
from work. It was approximately 2 a.m. when Bobby Joe Long abducted
her and took her blindfolded to his apartment, where he spent the
next thirty-six hours raping her. For some unknown reason he let
Lisa go—not the same fate that awaited his other victims.
January 15,
1978, twenty-one-year-old Nita Neary narrowly escaped Ted Bundy
when he left her sorority house with a bloody club in hand. He left
two of her sorority sisters dead and two more in critical condition.
Only seconds had saved Nita's life that night.
It was the
divine that sustained them, the hand of God that saved them. |
