The Bible Believer’s Handbook

by Larry Vaughn

Larry Vaughn has written an informative and useful book for Bible readers in The Bible Believer’s Handbook.  The book is presented in five parts:  The Things of God, Things God Expects You To Do, Good Things, Evil Things, Life’s Losers, and a conclusion entitled Choose Your Own Future.

Each section has topics for readers to choose from during their study, and mediations on the Bible.  In all, there are more than 180 topics for the reader to see what the Bible has to say about the subject, followed by Vaughn’s comments on the topic.

Under the heading of Evil Things is the topic of homosexuality.  Vaughn quotes several passages about the subject and then gives his opinion.  Whether the reader agrees with his opinion or not, he has the scriptures at hand to make his own decision.  While Vaughn is very much against homosexuality, he realizes there are those who will disagree with his interpretation of the passages.

On another topic, Marriage, under the heading of Things of God, Vaughn stresses that man and wife are expected to stay together and, if problems come up, they are to work with God to make the marriage work.  While not explicitly criticizing divorce, his take on the subject lets the reader know that he is opposed to it.

The book could be read in the order in which it is written, but one of the strengths of the book is the organization, which lets the reader instead simply find a topic that he / she is dealing with at the time.

This is a book that should be near the reader’s Bible as he / she studies the Word.
