Bo's Lasting Lessons:
The Legendary Coach Teaches the Timeless Fundamentals of Leadership
by Bo Schembechler and John U. Bacon
Read by John H. Mayer
This is a no nonsense audio book. Bo Schembechler was the one time legendary coach of the Big Ten Michigan
Wolverines Football team. Even as Mayer tells this story the words heard are Bo's. He has done a superb job of
giving the listener Bo's point of view. His career in football started as a need to gain experience, all that he
could, so that he could go on to be the best coach he could possibly be. He took jobs that didn't give him the
best teams or the best records but taught him what it meant to be a coach. Coaching and football were in his
blood. The lessons he learned and went on to teach to his team made them winners in every sense of the word, not
just on the field.
This is a touching tale of his career from beginning to end, as the book was completed just prior to his death.
It took him a long time to commit to writing this book but when he did he left nothing out. His lessons are a
remarkable gift to those who listen and a legacy to his coaching success as one of the winningest college coaches
in history. I enjoyed this audio and was intrigued by the insight it gave me into the man, Bo Schembechler. It is
an audio book anyone can listen to and enjoy. You don't have to be a football fan to get the message that Bo was a
man of principle: principles that can be applied to anyone in any job. And, if you are a Michigan fan, check out
Bacon's Blue Ice. |
