"Wisdom," one of the chapter titles in Think Like a Champion: An Informal Education in
Business and Life, aptly explains what the heart of this book is all about. Trump has
written many books throughout the years on business know-how, but this book is unique in
that it has a more personal touch. The book contains short essays about Trump’s own
experience-based philosophy on personal and professional success.
Like Trump’s personality, Think Like a Champion is direct and to the point. The
book, however, gives insight into the brash media personality that both charms (and
sometimes repels) the public. Trump’s method is to reflect, analyze and then mold his
experiences into vivid, yet plain-spoken advice. He also quotes great thinkers such as
Confucius, Einstein and Shakespeare. An added bonus is a Foreword by Rich Dad, Poor
Dad guru Robert Kiyosaki.
Think Like a Champion is also very timely, taking into consideration the future
of America in what he believes are the capable hands of President Barack Obama; the
despicable abuse of clients’ trust by Bernie Madoff; and even (humorously) the impact of
Somali pirates on our collective psyche. These events are presented as guideposts for how
to shape one’s mindset during these challenging times.
Using his own personal encounters as examples, Trump’s book shares nuggets of wisdom
with readers in search of their own successes. The interesting anecdotes that he shares
will build self-confidence in even the shyest of persons. Reading Trump’s thoughtful
collection is guaranteed to bring out the champion within.
