What an awesome and inspiring
read for the summer months! Amy Snyder shadows some of the most
elite ultra-cyclists as they take on RAAM (Race Across America).
This race is just what the title implies, a coast to coast race
starting in Oceanside, California and ending in Annapolis, Maryland
on a bicycle. Without a doubt this is one of the most grueling and
demanding endurance events on earth and chances are you’ve
never even heard of it. Since its creation in 1982 less than 200
people have even completed this 10 day race that covers over 3,000
miles. Amy Snyder gives a firsthand account of these racers and
their crews that makes you feel as though you are riding right beside
them as they battle with everything from the elements and terrain
to maintaining their sanity. The struggles these athletes face can
be as uncomfortably personal as they are shocking. RAAM is a true
test and testament to what the human body is capable of when pushed
to its extreme limits. A truly inspirational book that has created
a lifetime fan and follower of these racers and future RAAM’s.
