Mike
Huckabee, former Arkansas governor, is also known for his
show on the Fox News Network. In the beginning of the audiobook,
when Huckabee is discussing his way of life, I felt a little
turned off by the use of the word Bubba but then realized
its Huckabee’s way of saying, "this is how we are
in Louisiana, and we’re just as intelligent and opinionated
as the rest of you." In listening to God, Guns, Grits,
and Gravy, I came away enlightened on how the US can
improve itself and reminded of how quickly political correctness
can run amuck. Of course, Huckabee addresses politics and
White House, but he also writes about America’s history,
China, Government overreach, surveillance (obsession?), degrading
society (sorry, Miley Cyrus, but he’s got a point),
country living, the right to bear arms, extremists who want
to force change on others - or should I say: demand everyone
be like them (whoops… there I go sounding like a Huckabee).
Huckabee also discusses the different states, their political
views, their successes, and failures. His comments on the
financial mess California and Illinois find themselves in
make sense and the sad part is, no one will take notice or
demand changes.
And although
he is from Louisiana, Huckabee praises Texas on how they work
with new businesses. Huckabee delivers possible strategies
for the situations he discusses and some make sense, but,
again, politicians are about “control” so my bet
is this audio will fall on their deaf political ears. That’s
too bad because this “common woman” knows a good
audiobook when she hears it.
Huckabee
narrates his book in a polite, southern, down home tone. Listening
to it kind of made me hungry for grits.
