De-stress the 21st century way
-- with a coloring book! This is three books in one as the
images in here are the work of three different designers,
each with a very distinct style. There are over 55 pages in
here, all single-sided and of bright white paper. This is
rather thin so a piece of paper (or for best results, a card)
placed under the image is a good idea if you are using pens,
or even watercolors, as the book suggests is possible (I have
not tried this). The lines are clearly drawn, thin to medium,
and easily visible, being printed black. Each of the three
sections has a page all about the designer and features a
picture of them, plus a link to their website. The images
vary a lot in style, from the playful nature-inspired work
of Patty Prann Young, which is based on her fabric designs,
to the quilt block simplicity of Piece O’Cake Designs,
and the abstract mandala style of Geta Grama’s trapunto
quilt patterns. I like the way these designs started out as
something else entirely but have been adapted to being colored
in, giving them an extra dimension. The large spaces of the
Piece O’Cake designs are reminiscent of children’s
coloring books and could certainly be enjoyed by children,
or make an ideal place for some doodling or Zentangles. All
of the designs have also appeared in other C&T Publishing
coloring books, so if you have already bought Playful Designs
Coloring Book, Whimsical Designs Coloring Book or Swirling
Designs Coloring Book you will have seen any or all of the
three sets of images. This will give you a chance to color
them in differently! Many hours of relaxing coloring pleasure
await anybody who uses this book.
