Mind
in a tangle and struck with insomnia? Instead of tossing about
in bed, grab this book and some coloring materials and unwind
with these calming pictures.
The cover shows drowsy sheep leaping across flowing clouds
with the title written on a moon - very relaxing! The paper
is a bright white and of good quality but not thick, so there
is some showing through if you use pens or anything else wet.
I recommend sticking with pencils, crayons or pastels. Pictures
are printed both sides which is a pity, as many of the pictures
would be ideal for framing and hanging in a bedroom but you
just have to choose which one you want to keep. There are
no perforations to detach pages easily but the pictures do
not disappear into the spine. As this is a book focused on
sending people to sleep many of the images have a soporific
theme such as owls, clouds, raindrops, moon faces, the cover's
jumping sheep, teacups, teapots, waves and dream-catchers.
There are also mandalas, abstracts, florals, fish, feathers,
books, birds and even half a drowsy face; over a hundred pages
of images. Line widths vary but are black and very visible,
meaning that you don't have to peer at the pictures even in
a low light. I found the sleep-themed pictures very soothing,
particularly those featuring people or creatures that looked
as if they were nodding off! An unusual theme but a very inspired
one, I would love to see a follow-up volume.
