If you enjoy doing
puzzles and coloring, then this book is for you. There are
thirty pages in this large format (14½” x 10½”)
book each filled with a grid of different shapes, each with
a number. Follow the key down the side and fill in each shape
with the right color, and a picture emerges.
I confess to enjoying this hugely. It is the sort of relaxing
activity that you doesn’t require either a lot of coloring
talent or expensive materials to enjoy, and at the end you
have a rather impressive and framable artwork. A look at the
cover shows a dramatic tiger head, while on the back is an
elegant bee. At the back of the book the answers are revealed
in full color, but without spoiling the fun I can reveal that
quite a few of these depict flora and fauna with a smattering
of other images as well. Pictures are printed on one side
only, have a wide margin, so no vanishing into the spine.
Instead this is where you find the key (it is easy to see)
plus a handy perforation for easy removal. Paper is bright
white and of a good quality, but some pens might shadow a
bit on the other side, so putting a sheet of paper underneath
is a good idea if you want to use pens. The only alloy in
all this is that the actual grids themselves are very faint,
printed in a pale gray that is barely visible and with tiny
numbers. Sharp eyesight and a good light are required, and
although I realize this is done so the lines won’t be
seen when the picture is finished, they could have been a
little darker. This notwithstanding, I can imagine many happy
hours of coloring lie ahead for anybody who purchases this,
and hopefully there will be others, many other books in this
series!
