“It
was such a pleasure to sink one’s hands into the warm
earth to feel at one’s fingertips the possibilities of
the new season. – Kate Morton
Gardening is therapy. Digging in soil, pursing a garden magazine,
or reading a guide like Gardening like a Ninja makes
me happy. I usually mix herbs in the landscape which is why
the Gardening like a Ninja guide caught my eye. The
first thing I do with a gardening book is check out the Table
of Contents. I look for low maintenance, self-sowing, and perennial
ideas. I was pleased to see Angela England offers my personal
preference plus a whole lot more.
England first explains her idea of adding edibles in the landscape
and what edible landscaping is. She is promoting beauty and
saving money. Best of all she gives gardeners some great ideas.
England covers landscaping design first then addresses seasonable
edibles and plant choices. The pictures included are motivating.
England offers landscape designs that fit seasons, zones, soil
and various sections of the landscape. The author’s designs
are original and easy to follow. In Part III - Plants That Matter,
the author gives us a wide range of choices in herbs, vegetables,
flowers, Trees, shrubs, and edible ornamentals – perennials,
biennials, and annuals. It’s a comprehensive guide written
to improve your landscape and save you money.
Gardening Like a Ninja removes the seasonal trial and
error gardeners normally go through when trying to pair up landscape
and edibles. |
