Are
you curious to see what turned adults into colorists back
in 2013 when the hobby was in its infancy, or perhaps you
have colored in your old copy and want a fresh new one? Here
is an early adult coloring book still being reprinted to show
you what first got people taking up this absorbing and relaxing
pastime.
In the three years since this was first published this hobby
truly has gone viral. This reprint has better quality paper
than the originals and a bright white color with a smoother
finish. Pictures are printed on both sides of the paper so
this is more a book for pencils than pens or paints as you
will see some shadowing with anything that sinks into the
paper. Designs are not printed all the way into the spine
which is good and the book opens out obligingly flat for easy
use. The pictures are all of the pattern variety reminiscent
of wallpaper or fabric designs, nothing whatsoever like the
type of illustrations found in more juvenile books. Abstracts,
florals, leaves, paisleys, insects, birds and designs inspired
by other cultures fill over a hundred pages. Line widths vary
a lot but are black and very visible even in a low light.
Due to the nature of the designs this is aimed more at women
than men but I can imagine a wide range of people enjoying
this book. This is a great book for beginner colorists in
particular – although all abilities are catered for
– due to the range of intricacies and sheer number of
pictures. It is books like this that kick started the hobby
and long may it remain in print.

My own personal recommendation for UK colorists is The Works
