Everyone loves fresh vegetables, but it’s the hard
work and cost that have some avoiding their gardens. Caleb
Warnock offers a guide to those who love gardening but are
limited on time, and/or money – people like me.
The book begins with a lengthy Table of Contents that easily
directs you to your favorite vegetables. Warnock’s desire
is to give us confidence when gardening with Mother Nature.
The list of growing crops Warnock has in his own garden tells
me he’s brimming with confidence. I didn’t shy
away from his list or his choices because I want to garden;
I just don’t want to live in it. The author educate
us about abundance, the law of want, curtailing foods with
preservatives, US produces crops, the use of chemicals, and
so much more. He generously gives us 9 principles of successful
stress-free gardening. I have to say, Warnock had me at “low
cost” gardening in this chapter. I have no plans to
visit the garden center this year. I appreciated the advice
on the best size for squash and zucchini. Warnock also goes
over Compost Tea and Fertilizer Tea. Best of all, he promotes
self-seeding gardens and tells us how to be successful at
it. In the rest of the book the author shares when and how
to plant, fertilize transplant, harvest and preserve vegetables.
Stress-Free Vegetable Gardening is
a comprehensive volume gardeners will come to appreciate.
It’s an attractive, well design book. The chapters are
set up well and easy to follow. Stress-Free Vegetable
Gardening is a must-have for both serious and amateur
gardeners.
