The
truth is that I have not read Hanauer’s previous work,
The Bitch is in the House. Honestly I don’t think you
have to, to get this one. If you have, then this is the sequel
you’ve been waiting fifteen years for. I am sure that
probably somewhere in time I have read her columns in the
noteworthy magazines, Glamour, Mademoiselle, and Seventeen.
So her style of writing this anthology will definitely hit
a chord with many women of that era.
What you will find here is a healthy look at women -- their
views, unadulterated and honest. Some of the women are writers,
but all of these women are smart, decisive and making choices.
This book is the sequel that goes on to tell the stories of
over twenty post- feminist women fifteen years later. It is
a divergent digest of the midlife crisis that called to all
and how these women dealt with the question, “What now?”
These
older, wiser women having dealt with growing pains, have now
settled into themselves and can candidly talk about the real
issues: weight, commitment, or not, sex and so much more without
regret or remorse.
I enjoyed
the anecdotes, warmth and the sense of power behind every
story. And I am sure you will, too. It’s a hard history
lesson with a warm blanket and hot toddy kind of book. Curl
up and cringe! Lol. |
