Six inches square and ideal for carrying around, here is another small book with big appeal from Michael O’Mara. This is not a coloring book as such but a patterning book, something which will need no introduction to anybody familiar with Zentangles. On one side of a two-page spread is a simple outline filled in with patterns in color. On the other side is the outline only, ready for you to copy or customize as you choose. Pages are bright white, smooth, thick paper (or thin card) and drawn by hand in medium width, highly visible black pen. Due to the layout with the two-page spreads, pictures are back to back, so wet media and permanent markers like Sharpies are unsuitable. I used water-based felt pens and gel pens and got on fine. Pencils and crayons are also an option, but the smooth paper works best with a pen. The drawings are divided into themed chapters so you can choose from animals, flowers, ocean, mandalas, things that go and more. Each is headed with an inspiring quotation, and there is a page at the front that explains how to use the book. An imaginative and relaxing book that is ideal for waiting rooms, traveling or anywhere else.
