M.E. Froelich, US Secret Service assigned to protect the Vice President, searches all files to find Jack Reacher, former U S Army Criminal Investigation Division (C I D) specialist. Froelich had an affair with Jack's brother, Joe, who had then recommended Jack to do a security audit.

Froelich wants to test the security and so wants to hire Jack to find any flaws in the security for Vice President Armstrong. Armstrong has been receiving anonymous letters threatening his life. Froelich hires Jack to find the source.

Jack is assisted in his search by Frances Neagley, formerly with C.I.D.
Their investigations uncover betrayal in the Secret Service and links to Armstrong's past.

This is a real page-turner. The suspense is palpable, with continuous fast action leaving the reader breathless. There are interesting passages describing the role of the Secret Service and its procedures.

The characterizations are excellent. We are introduced to more about
Jack's brother, Joe and their relationship which adds to the development of Jack's character.

This is one of the best thrillers I have read this year.
