Split
Second
By David
Baldacci
Secret
Service agent Michelle Maxwell just let the man she's guarding go
into a funeral parlor -- unescorted. In a split second, behind those
closed doors, a presidential candidate is kidnapped and Maxwell’s
career takes a dive. In that split second Maxwell’s life takes
off on a roller coaster ride of danger, death and destruction. Within
time Secret Service agent Sean King, now a lawyer joins her on this
tumultuous ride. He, too, suffered disgrace when the presidential
candidate he was guarding eight years before was shot and killed.
The twists and turns Maxwell and King face are enough to give a
reader whiplash. The two hold on to each other with an uneasy trust
in an attempt to find out who kidnapped her charge and who is leaving
dead bodies in King’s wake.
Split
Second is a comprehensive novel of thrills and spills, and
that doesn’t surprise me at all. Baldacci has fast become
an expert at giving his readers enough action and surprises to keep
them coming back. After listening to the audio book of Split
Second, I can easily predict this one will climb the bestseller
list in no time.
Film,
television, and radio performer, Scott Brick, narrates Split
Second. He is a veteran at narrating suspenseful audio books,
so he had no trouble in making this one his own. I think the most
interesting part was how regional he made Maxwell and King’s
accents by ending their sentences as if they were questions. With
this unabridged version listeners won’t miss a moment of the
suspense. I have to recommend it.
