The
Alpine Pursuit
By Mary Daheim
Newspaper
owner and editor Emma Lord is up to her ears in news--of the quaint
small town variety, until the night of the local amateur theater
production, when something goes terribly wrong. An accident. Or
was it?
Of
course, there was supposed to be a shooting scene in the show, but
the bullets were supposed to be blanks. Instead, an actor lies dead.
When
not acting, he held the position of administrator at the local community
college, and as much as Emma hates to believe it, his death may
not have been an accident at all.
In fact, as it turns out, he was hated by many, even received threats
in recent months.
Beset
by blizzards and threatened by flood waters, life in this small
mountain town is never dull, and now the lively, squabbling townspeople
take sides and make things even more challenging as Emma and Sheriff
Milo Dodge join forces to dig out the truth.
Charmingly
reminiscent of Jessica Fletcher's character in "Murder She
Wrote", Mary Daheim's Emma Lord is a savvy and sensible matron
with a heart of gold, who dreams of far away places, but is stuck
writing and even creating the news in her tiny burg, as well as
dealing with all manner of quirky, yet lovable townfolk.
Her
memorable and sometimes outrageous characters will come alive if
you let them, walking off the printed page and straight into your
heart--just as they did mine. |
