The Closers
Harry Bosch Detective series

by Michael Connelly

During his retirement, Harry Bosh had a hip problem. The lack of the cold metal weight on his hip is one reason Harry Bosch comes out of retirement. He returns with a former partner to the LAPD as Closers. Closers solve cold cases. Harry's first file is a high school girl left dead on a hill near her home. These many years later, her parents and her friends continue to suffer. Once Harry meets the mother caught up in time, still living around her daughter's untouched bedroom and a successful father who's lost his way in order to be found, Harry feels a deep desire to solve the case, bring the murderer to justice and find peace for her friends and loved ones. Harry chases various leads, one pretty big. Big enough to put on tattoos and go undercover.

Harry Bosch is a strong character. Despite the career moves, his personality remains the same - sharp and tenacious. Harry seems a little more grounded when on the PD, but I thought the series was a little more exciting during his retirement.

The planning is methodical; the chase suspenseful; the conclusion an interesting choice. The storyline is continual, which keeps the reader engaged as Harry moves from one outcome to another. Connelly knows how to deliver human nature, suspense and challenges to his readers.
