A
Loon Lake Fishing mystery
By
Victoria Houston
Hope
MacDonald, syndicated advice columnist, is found shot to death in
her palatial Loon Lake home. An elderly woman is murdered in her
home in a home invasion gone wrong. A series of bank robberies in
the area has the FBI asking for local assistance.
All
these are problems for police chief Lewellyn Ferris, who is trying
to solve them while campaigning for the sheriff's election. She
enlists the aid of retired dentist Doc Osborne, who has made a new
career in orthodontic forensics so he can be closer to Ferris. Their
search for the solutions resurrects an old unsolved murder that
has ramifications in the present. There are many suspects before
they resolve the cases, and seeking the truth places both their
lives in peril.
This
is as much a story about the lore of fishing, the love of fishing,
and the art of fishing as it is a mystery. Much detail is given
about to how to fish, where the best fishing is found. The scenery
of the Loon Lake area is beautifully portrayed. There are enough
subplots to keep the reader interested and intrigued. A description
of the fishing experience of a group of women is well done and entertaining.
The characters are colorful and true to life.
A
relaxing and pleasant book with a different setting and background.
No violence; no sex; no "adult" language.
