A Shot to Die For
by Libby Fischer Hellmann
Ellie Foreman is returning from a video shooting at The Lodge, a newly renovated luxury
resort in Lake Genera, Wisconsin. She stops at a rest area on her way home and becomes
involved in conversation with a woman who claims her ride home has abandoned her. While
they engage in conversation, a pickup truck pulls out of the rest area and its occupant
aims a gun at the woman, killing her. Ellie becomes involved when the woman's family
presses her for information. She is reluctant to become involved, but when a second
shooting occurs, she decides it wise to investigate. What she discovers is a web of deceit
and revenge dating in families generations back. Her own life is put on hold while she
is involved...her relationship with her daughter and undecided future with her lover,
David. The investigation into the murders places Ellie's life in jeopardy when she confronts
the killer.
This is a simple story, well written with the characters real and recognized as someone
the reader might know. The background of the lake area of Wisconsin is beautifully depicted.
Ellie is an engaging addition to the ranks of amateur sleuths. |
