Weeping
On Wednesday
A
Lois Meade Mystery
By
Ann Purser
Lois
Meade, owner of a cleaning service, has troubles. Not long after
she hires Enid Abraham, some of her other employees begin to grumble.
No one quite believes Lois saw a body in the river during a fierce
storm, and someone begins sending anonymous letters to Lois's husband
implying she's having an affair with a local police officer, and
her youngest child is missing.
In
Lois Meade, her family, and her employees, Ms.Purser has created
a group of characters into whose lives I found myself quickly drawn.
Combined with the in-depth look into village life, I eagerly immersed
myself in each character's mind, even the villain's.
At
one or two points, I did find myself annoyed with characters, who
in the face of commonsense, refused to call the police. Nevertheless,
Ms. Purser’s easy, unpretentious style, kept me turning the
pages, eager to unravel the mystery of the body in the river, as
well of various other mini mysteries.
Weeping
on Wednesday, while not as fast moving as many mysteries I've
enjoyed, was sufficiently engrossing to leave me eager to search
out the previous mysteries in the series, Murder on Monday
and Terror on Tuesday. I'm eagerly waiting to see what
mischief awaits Lois Meade on Thursday. |
