The Bodyguard and the Show Dog
The Bodyguard series, No. 2
by Christy Tillery French
Natasha Chamberlain wants to be independent of her former boss, Jonce Striker, even though she is passionately in
love with him. She has established her own business, offering bodyguard services. Her first case is that of a
champion show dog, Chumley, a pug who has all the bad habits of a pug. Chumley's owner, Myrtle Galbreath, wants
to hire her to be a bodyguard for Chumley, who has received a threatening letter. Chumley had won Best of Show
regionally for the past two years, and the letter states that if he shows up at the Greater Tennessee Club Cluster
this year, he's dead. Tempted by the fee Myrtle offers, Natasha agrees to take on the case. It will involve her
accompanying Myrtle on Chumley's daily walks. When Myrtle is unable to walk with her, Natasha takes Chumley alone
only to be attacked and bitten by a Rottweiler who objected to Chumley's "advances". This attack ends with Natasha
in the emergency room at the local hospital. In her attempt to find the extortionist Natasha ends up again in the
emergency room and also being kidnapped along with the dog. Striker is continually having to rescue her and is
frustrated in trying to convince her that the bodyguard business is too dangerous for her.
The story is a combination of romance, mystery and humor. Natasha is a feisty young woman deeply in love but
fighting to maintain her independence. The love affair between Natasha and Striker is steamy to say the least.
The characters of Myrtle, Roger and the Simoan pair, Pit and Bigun, to name a few, are entertaining and enjoyable.
Natasha's efforts to solve the case are full of laughable antics.
This is an excellent book for a pleasant afternoon's reading... |
