Dead Birds Don't Sing

by Brenda M. Boldin

Dead Birds Don't Sing is the first in a four book series with Alex Marie Masters as the main character. She's a former prostitute trying to live a straight life and doing a little singing on the side. In this first installment we find Alex in the wrong place at the wrong time and her past comes back to haunt her.

Alex has gone to the bank to make a deposit for her boss at the secretarial school where she works. Just after she arrives she's shot, and kidnapped by bank robbers. Unfortunately the kidnapping is related to the fact that she's recognized the men from her past life. Too scared to go to the police and even more scared to be found again by them she sets out to find out who the one was she didn't recognize and what has happened to the money they stole. She's hoping if she finds it and returns it the police will stop suspecting her as being part of the bank robbers team. She comes under more scrutiny as people end up dead and she still refuses to cooperate with the police.

Alex is a tough, no-nonsense character who you'll want to find out more about. With entertaining, multi-faceted characters you'll look forward to reading about in the next book to find out what Alex and her new police friend Cole have gotten mixed up in. Definitely a fun read.
