Eye of Vengeance

by Jonathan King

An inmate being transferred to the county's downtown jail is gunned down at the courthouse door just prior to his sentence review hearing. Journalist Nick Mullins is sent to cover the story. At the crime scene, he investigates and ascertains that the killer is a sniper, hidden across from the jail. There follows a series of shootings, all of prisoners who are appealing their sentences. The killings have all the earmarks of someone having inside information, enabling the sniper to pinpoint the exact time and place of the victims.

Nick is himself a troubled man, stalking the drunk driver who killed Nick's wife and daughter. The man is now out of prison after serving a short sentence, but Nick feels he hasn't paid enough for his crime. Nick must come to terms with this burden while trying to find the sniper and understand his motivation.

This is a terse account of one man's campaign to render justice on evildoers he feels have not paid for their crimes. The battle which Nick wages to overcome his need for revenge is intense. The steps the sniper takes in setting up his target are graphic and all too real. The pace is rapid and the suspense constant as the reader follows the sniper's steps.
