Lost Lake

by Phillip Margolin

Ami Vergano is a single Mom and struggling lawyer trying to raise her young son on her own. Recently widowed, she is trying to be both mother and father as well as the major breadwinner. When she meets the quiet and unobtrusive Dan Morelli at a local craft fair, she is impressed with his beautiful furniture he makes by hand and his humble demeanor. He mentions he is in search of an apartment and workspace, and she offers to rent her extra loft and share her workspace.

Things are working out well, and Ami's young son is enjoying the attentions of a kindly man, when the unthinkable happens. At a Little League game her son is playing in, an argument turns nasty, and Dan very nearly kills a man.

Soon after, a young woman shows up claiming that Dan is wanted for the murder of a young Congressman many years ago and holds the key to a conspiracy that has remained covered up all these years.

Who to believe? Dan is not talking, his fingerprints are locked down, and the young woman, Vanessa Kohler, is proven to be a former mental patient who has an intense hatred for her father, a former general who is now running for President of the United States.

It is a shame to say that this is my first Phillip Margolin. It is a pleasure to say this will not be my last. I enjoyed the book immensely and loved the way the reader was tossed from one side to the other. I would suspect one person, to change my mind completely only pages later. A fantastic read.
