Federal prosecutor, Melanie Vargas, spending a leisurely
romantic evening with her new love, FBI agent, Dan O’Reilly,
is inadvertently drawn into a primo case and must “meet the
press” after a long sabbatical from the public eye. The brutal
rape and horrific murder of Suzanne Shepard, a celebrity reporter
who is seemingly on everyone’s hit list, puts Melanie square
in the middle of an investigation with more twists and turns than
the paths of Central Park in Manhattan where the murder occurred.
During the course of Melanie’s investigation,
she is shocked to discover the killer, dubbed by the press as “The
Central Park Butcher”, has an inside line into her personal
life and activities….and has become her stalker. She’s
forced to confront the fact he may be someone she knows or admires.
Someone who knows far too much about her. Is it the self-serving
politician? The drug-dealing personal trainer? The father of her
dear friend? Or………..?? She knows she must solve
this mystery fast because the killer has designated her as his next
victim.
Author, Michele Martinez, had my attention at the
first chapter, but by the time I reached the fifth chapter, I couldn’t
put the book down. The author draws readers into the investigation
from beginning to end. She guides you as you form theories, then
re-form them after your ideas are dispelled. When she shares the
ultimate, you’re caught off guard. You might have suspected,
but you were never sure, until the end.
This book is well written and easy to read. I appreciate
that the chapters are short and the terminology easy for folks who
have not spent time in law enforcement, television and law. A perfectly
wonderful read for mystery/suspense sleuths and I look forward this
author’s next!
