Grievous Sin
a Peter Decker / Rina Lazarus novel #6
by Faye Kellerman
Rina Lazarus and LAPD homicide detective Peter Decker are overjoyed by the birth of their first daughter, Hannah.
Their joy is saddened when complications from the birth mean Rina can have no more children.
Peter's daughter, Cindy, home for a vacation from college in the East is thrilled to be helping with her new
stepsister. Due to severe budget cuts there is a shortage of nurses for the nursery. Cindy is watching over
Hannah despite the opposition of the nurse in charge. The situation becomes more serious when that respected
nurse vanishes with one of the newborn babies. Her car is later found at the bottom of a ditch with a body
inside. Peter, his partner Marge, and Cindy must find the missing baby, as well as learn the reasons behind the
kidnapping and murder.
The story is well written and well plotted. The action is fast-paced, with excellent detective work on the
part of Peter and Marge and the amateur Cindy. The warmth of the love between Peter and Rina is refreshing.
The characters are well drawn and much attention is given to their relationship with each other. The problems
of hospital politics and budget cuts and how they affect the care of patients is excellently defined. |
