Life Blood
Sequel to Thicker than Blood

by Penny Rudolph

Rachel Chavez is back, this time to investigate the mysterious abandonment of two young Mexican boys in the parking garage she runs. She whisks them to a hospital, only to find one is already dead and the other very close. The mystery truly begins when she returns to visit the other boy, only to find the hospital has no record that either of them have ever been admitted.

Familiar characters from the last book are also prevalent here, including Rachel’s dad, Marty, as well as her good friend, Goldie. Distaste for police help and a desire to help these children and bring them justice leads Rachel on a path of reflection on her own Mexican heritage. Rachel also must deal with Hank, a familiar character from Thicker Than Blood, who would like to marry her.

Attempts on her life and Hank’s, and a false drug accusation, lead Rachel to a new life she never dreamed of. An enjoyable follow-up to Thicker than Blood.
