Through the Darkness
A Hannah Ives Mystery #6
by Marcia Talley
Hannah's daughter, Emily, has moved back to Maryland with her husband, Dante, and their three children. Dante is
opening his dream, Dante's Paradiso, a plush, full service spa. Hannah is recovering from her bout with cancer
and her subsequent mastectomy. She babysits for her grandchildren.
She leaves one year old Timmy by himself in the spa's nursery, and when she returns he is missing. A search for
the infant proves he is not there, and the family believes he must have been kidnapped. The police and the FBI
investigate but there is no ransom demand. Because of this the FBI profiler believes the kidnappers plan to raise
the child as their own. Dante and Emily, already having marital problems, drift further apart as Dante holds her
responsible for leaving the child in his grandmother's care. Hannah is frustrated by the lack of results by law
enforcement, and takes matters into her own hands to find the monster behind the kidnapping.
This is an entertaining who-dun-it which focuses on the family and its relationships. There is an excellent
cast of characters, but Hannah is the most outstanding. She is portrayed as a very human being, smart, strong
and resourceful, willing to take action when pressured. The subplot involves targeting minors and the dangers of
sexual predators on the Internet. The author warns parents to be alert for these dangers. |
