The Wheel of Darkness
Agent Pendergast Series, #8

by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

The Wheel of Darkness is the eight book written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child featuring FBI agent Aloysius Pendergast. In the previous book, The Book of the Dead, Pendergast's ward, Constance Greene, was subjected to the unwanted attention of Pendregast's brother.

In an effort to quiet both his and Constance's troubled minds, Pendregast takes them on a rugged trip to a very remote Tibetan monastery where they can learn more of the religion and find the peace they hope to regain.

Shortly after their arrival, Pendergast is approached by a monk who informs him that a precious relic has been stolen. The relic, called Agozyen, is purported to have the ability to wipe out all humanity. Pendergast agrees to try and track down the thief and return the artifact to its rightful place.

Little does he realize that his journey will take both he and Constance onto the Britannia, the world's largest and most luxurious ocean liner, as it makes its maiden voyage. A voyage that carries Pendergast and Constance right into the thick of multiple murders and the possibility that the Agozyen has already been unleashed on mankind.

As a devoted fan of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child I look forward to each new release. I enjoyed this book and its varied locations, from the starkness of the Tibetan Monastery to the luxury of the Britannia ocean liner. It was nice to see Constance's character develop more, while the mystery intensified with every page. Mark this a winner for the Preston and Child team.
