1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree
Women's Murder Club Box Set, Volume 1
by James Patterson
Read by Suzanne Toren, Melissa Leo, Jeremy Piven, Carolyn McCormick
The Women’s Murder Club - want to know how it all began? This boxed set is the best place to start.
1st TO DIE
"Women’s Murder Club. This was good. No men allowed." - Lindsey Boxer - 1st to Die.
In 1st to Die, four women pull together to solve a rash of shocking murders. Honeymooners are dying -
violently - and it’s up to Homicide Detective Boxer to find out why. At the same time, Boxer suffers a life
threatening illness and goes through some personal issues. It’s a smart way for readers to see how she became
the shining star of the Women’s Murder Club. The other star is Boxer’s best friend, Claire - the medical examiner.
Jill, the assistant D.A., and Cindy, the reporter who gets a promotion, do their part as well - especially Cindy.
Boxer’s goal is to find out where the serial killer is making his selections and how he is hunting the victims
down. With each set of murders, Boxer and Claire find more clues, and unfortunately the more perverted the
killings become. Listeners can expect an intense listen, and it’s just the beginning.
2nd CHANCE
The Margarita Posse rides again. The powerful conclusion of 1st to Die gets Boxer a promotion and a
personal reluctance to go back on the street. The shooting of a black child leads to multiple murders giving
Boxer the professional push needed. Boxer and Claire analyze the bodies and the clues. Cindy gets personal with
a witness. Jill surprises everyone with some unexpected news. And just after Boxer loses someone close to her,
someone else re-appears from the past. Expect a stunning conclusion. Well-crafted with a great delivery comes
to mind after hearing 2nd Chance. The narrators are superb in leading listeners down a winding path
of murder and mayhem.
3rd DEGREE
In the 3rd thriller, Detective Boxer saves the day when a large townhouse explodes. She soon discovers a
family member missing. And then a second murder leads to a killer with a deadly message. The Department discovers
this is not an empty threat. In fact, the messages are quite explosive - and become very personal. Boxer follows
the key name left behind after each death. Claire looks for answers in the victims’ bodies. Jill, the DA, is
ready to open any door Boxer needs. And Cindy searches far and wide with her own leads. While each member of the
Murder Club follows her own lead, the killer gets closer and becomes more menacing. Once again Boxer is tested
by threats, sacrifices and personal loss. It’s a wild ride with expert narration. Patterson offers strong
character development and includes personal insight into each character without distracting from the storyline. |
