Black Tulip
Have No Mercy IV
by Kam Ruble
Black Tulip is the fourth book in the Have No Mercy series Kam Ruble began with her lawyer husband Bobby
Ruble several years ago. These crime thrillers are stand-alone reads, but do revolve around the skills of homicide
detectives Joe Warner and Eddy Konklin, who work in Mt. Pride, Colorado. The solving of a dastardly murder is always
a great page-turner, but Kam Ruble goes a lot further in this genre by showing what circumstances formed the
personalities of the murders in each book and why they commit the awful crimes they do. Though this information is
unfolded at the beginning and later in bits and pieces throughout each book, this insight doesn't become a spoiler
for the plot.
This was especially true in Black Tulip where Warner and Konklin solve a series of grisly murders of
couples with small children. Though you can probably figure out why the murders are happening early on, the reader
gets led down a long, winding path before the culprit is identified and caught.
I'm a big crime fan so I was very pleasantly surprised to find a new author in this genre - and one who could
keep me guessing. Readers new to this series will enjoy not only a good mystery read but will appreciate the
psychological background of the killers in each book. I'm hoping that Ms. Ruble will continue delving into the
dark minds of these murders for many more books to come. |
