Mickey Haller must put his defense together quickly.  He finds that his case has no defense as he gathers his files and witnesses for Elliot.  "The Magic Bullet" to clear his client is missing.  It seems Vincent took this information to his grave.  In the meantime, Haller is also monitoring the Vincent case.  Soon he learns Jerry Vincent’s killer may also have him in his sights.  As LAPD Investigator Harry Bosch begins to investigate Vincent’s homicide, Haller has trouble agreeing with his methods.  As both cases intensify, Bosch and Haller have to join forces to solve Vincent’s case and protect Haller.

Being new to Michael Connelly’s genre, I was interested to hear his audio book.  It took me some time to get into the story, but as the intrigue mounted and new evidence was discovered, I was drawn in.  Still, I was put off slightly by the reader, Peter Giles. As an actor, he read with too much unneeded dramatic inflection.  I prefer to hear the story read to me with less intensity, unless it is appropriate to the action.  His female voice lacked luster.  I had trouble listening with the sincerity with which the book was written.

As author of the bestselling Detective Harry Bosch novels and The Lincoln Lawyer, which introduced lawyer Mickey Haller, Connelly has written a new novel combining the two popular characters.  Their differences give this novel a new and interesting twist.  Fans will like the combination.
