Cat Deck the Halls
Joe Grey Mystery #13
by Shirley Rousseau Murphy
Violence is virtually unheard of in the quiet seaside village of Molena Point, California. But this pre-Christmas
season things aren't so quiet for Joe Grey, feline P.I., and his two cohorts, Dulcie and the Kit. While the Kit
is out roaming she stumbles upon a dead man under the village Christmas tree. Clinging to the man is a small
child, with the killer nowhere in sight. With a few calming licks to soothe her frightened inner cat the Kit
bolts across the rooftops in search of help. The Kit goes to Joe Grey and it is there she phones the police for
help. After phoning for help the Kit and Joe Grey return to the murder site only to find the murdered man gone
and the child hiding in a shed. Dulcie, Joe's feline girlfriend, hears the sirens and follows them knowing they
will most likely lead her to Joe and the Kit.
With the dead man missing and precious few leads Joe, Dulcie, and the Kit decide to take matters into their own
sleuthing paws. With the police not getting anywhere in their investigation Joe, Dulcie, and the Kit set their
sights on bringing this killer to justice.
Cat Deck the Halls is a delightful and entertaining story. Shirley Rousseau Murphy is a gifted story
teller. This is the first in the Joe Grey mysteries I have read but certainly won't be the last. If you love
animals and a good mystery—you will love Cat Deck the Halls. With its odd-ball neighbors, break-ins,
and talking cats, its intriguing and complex plot will keep you glued to its pages till the very end. |
