Dr, Gail McCarthy is taking a hiatus from her career as a veterinarian to be a stay-at- home mom and care for her
son Mac and to raise a couple of horses. But her simple life becomes complicated when a new neighbor moves in and
immediately begins to cause trouble.
Lindee Stone, a champion barrel racer and horse trainer, moves in next door and forces Gail’s horses off of the
pasture that Gail has rented for the past number of years. It seems that Lindee is setting up a horse training
business with a barrel racing school on the side and needs the extra grazing land to board horses.
When Gail drops in to confront the new neighbor she catches Lindee in the middle of a workout and witnesses what
appears to be a tragic accident, which takes the life of the overbearing horse trainer. But there’s something
about the way things happened that just didn’t seem right. Gail has her doubts about whether it was really an
accident.
Within a few days another accident occurs in the same training ring and now Dr. Gail is convinced that there
are some very deliberate actions behind these mishaps. Gail befriends the young woman who maintains the stable
and cares for the horses; the woman who was Lindee’s right hand. The picture begins to clear and Gail realizes
that her suspicions are well founded.
Lindee was a ruthless and conniving businesswoman so there are plenty of suspects with solid motives and most
of them have the expertise and opportunity. There are lots of red herrings in this tale.
The book moves at a decent pace and there’s enough action to hold the reader's interest. Its dialog is easy
to follow and not overloaded with rodeo jargon understood only by cowboys. It’s a rather short book but it tells
the complete story. The only thing that I would change would be the graphic references to the joys of breastfeeding
your infant.
The story has a great and exciting ending and is well worth your time.
