The Children of Black Valley
by Evan Kilgore
Sam Mackie is a mid-level pharmaceutical executive. Twelve years ago, his first son, Riley, disappeared. His wife,
devastated, took to drink. His marriage floundered. His second son, Daniel, is doubly precious to him now, so when
an attempt is made to abduct him Sam becomes alarmed. He feels that someone is watching them constantly.
Then Daniel is struck by a mysterious illness, diagnosed as radiation poisoning. He is taken for treatment to a
special laboratory in the jungles of Africa, supposedly to affect a cure. There Sam finds an abandoned nuclear
silo which is the image that has haunted him from his earliest memory. He discovers the diabolical experiments
performed there. It becomes a race against unknown forces to save his son, to figure out what happened to his first
son, and to uncover the clues about his own past.
The Children of Black Valley is a well written page turner. It is extremely fast paced. The action never
lets up, from Sam's home to the depths of the African jungle. The stresses and trauma which Sam and his wife suffer
are very well portrayed. The lengths taken by the unscrupulous men are frightening and must be curtailed. |
