The Crafty Teddy
A Bear Collector’s Mystery
by John J. Lamb
Brad and Ashleigh Lyon wanted nothing but to relax in the Shenandoah Valley after Brad retired from the San
Francisco police force. They had begun their antique teddy bear group with other local residents. Unfortunately
for the Lyons, an intruder came into their home one day and took off with an extremely rare teddy bear of
sentimental value. In the course of trying to figure out what happened with the stolen bear, a local museum
director is found murdered. Does the murder of the director have anything to do with the stolen bear? Why are there
three Japanese men looking around all of a sudden?
Mr. Lamb does a great job in developing characters that readers can understand and relate to. Ashleigh and Brad
seem like the typical retired couple who set off to do what they’ve always loved to do, something that most retirees
attempt to do. The small town setting of Shenandoah Valley envelopes the characters, and adds to the suspense of the
mystery of the stolen bear and then the murder of the museum director.
What is unique and keeps this different from other mystery series, is the unique history and obsession with the
teddy bears developed through Brad and Ashleigh. It is obvious Mr. Lamb has spent some time researching teddy bears.
Who would have ever known that there is such a rich history behind teddy bears and that they were so collectible? |
