Cross Country
Alex Cross Book #14

by James Patterson
Read by Peter J. Fernandez, Dion Graham

Detective Dr. Alex Cross returns in Cross Country, another James Patterson triumph. Alex was called out to a bizarre murder. An entire family had been murdered in their home, then brutally dismembered. The cuts were ragged and the sheer hatred was shocking and sickening. Here, the mother seemed to have been the last to die. But who died first and why was anyone’s guess.

Before Cross could figure out who had done this horrible crime, he was called to another house. This family had also been brutally murdered and dismembered, but the work had been much cleaner. After that, he discovered that he had known the mother of the first family some years before. Now, it was personal.

Cross found that the killers were a group of wild boys led by an African man known only as the Tiger. He came from Nigeria and had returned there. Cross called the Nigerian ambassador, only to find that the ambassador and his family had been murdered. A trip to Lagos landed Cross in jail, where he was told to forget the Tiger. Would Cross be able to free himself and stop this gang of killers?

Cross Country is another stellar mystery by one of the world’s best authors, James Patterson. As usual, the plot is convoluted and constantly moving. The Tiger is always one step ahead of Cross, but Cross has no idea how. Political intrigue runs rampant, as the CIA keeps telling Cross to forget the Tiger and let the agency handle it. Cross’ tenacity is admirable in light of the obstacles he faces.

The rest of the characters are just as human as Cross. The suspense keeps you on edge as the plot twists and turns. Cross’ confusion mounts as he tries to find out why and how the CIA is involved. The answer is totally unexpected. So, listen to Cross Country, and treat yourself to a great story.
