Death of a Dreamer
A Hamish Macbeth Mystery, #22
by M. C. Beaton (aka Marion Chesney)
Read by Graeme Malcolm
Hamish MacBeth and the villagers of Lochdubh suffer the drama of visiting
artists. Effie is a painter and potter. She’s also a dreamer - or
is it schemer? The second artist visiting is Jock. He’s painting Priscilla
- Hamish’s ex fiancé. Effie’s fallen for Jock. She’s flashing a ring
and telling the local ladies she’s engaged. Effie is later found dead
and without her ring. Hamish has double the dilemma when an American
is also found dead. He rounds up the suspects, questions them, watches
them, and questions them again. While solving the murders, Hamish
gets a harsh lesson on reading people. It’s a mystery of dreamers,
lovers and harsh reality.
It was so nice to visit the Scottish Highlands again. Hamish is
getting older and cares for his cat, dog and chickens as if they
are his children. At one point he realizes it may be time to have
a woman in his life again. So who will it be: Elspeth, Priscilla
or someone new? Beaton delivered just enough twists and turns. The
mystery was a true whodunit. Highly recommended.
