Dirty Money
the Parker series #2

by Richard Stark
(pseudonym for Donald E. Westlake)

In Nobody Runs Forever Parker and his gang stole a bank's assets from the van in transit. There were so many police in the area that they couldn't escape with the money. To leave it behind they hid it in an abandoned country church in rural Massachusetts.

Now Parker, along with his companion, Claire, has returned to the area to reclaim the 2.2 million marked money. One of Parker's partners had been captured but escaped after killing a marshall. Bounty hunter Sandra arrives in the area and wants Parker to cut her in on the money.

Parker must find a way to retrieve the money without getting caught by the law, which is still in the area, and without being robbed by the other crooks. After retrieving the money he must find a way to launder it, and then to obtain a new identity.

Dirty Money is an action packed thriller with a group of ruthless individuals who will do anything to gain their money. The characters are well presented with a few hardened men and women at odds with each other. Stark (pseudonym for Donald E. Westlake) writes in a terse and clever style with periods of wit. The ending of the story is inconclusive, which perhaps lends itself to a sequel.

Dirty Money is a quick, easy read guaranteed to lighten a few hours for the reader.
