Findings
A Faye Longchamp Mystery #4
by Mary Anna Evans
Archaeologist Faye Longchamp and her housemate, Joe Wolf Mantooth, are restoring a plantation house while excavating
a site which includes the Turkey Foote Hotel on Joyeux Island, Florida where her family once lived. Faye stores her
findings and field notes in the basement belonging to a friend, Douglass Everett, who founded the Douglass Museum of
American Slavery. The top item of their findings is a fabulous emerald.
Douglass' wife finds him dying with Faith's artifacts scattered around him. Nothing seems to be missing. When
Douglass' widow asks her to assemble the broken relics, Faith discovers her field notes are missing. She begins to
investigate the history of the emerald and why anyone would murder Douglass. There is another murder and then an
attempt on Faith's life. Mantooth vows to protect her while her Atlanta legal friend, Ross Donnelly asks her to
marry him and relocate in Atlanta.
Findings is a well-written, fast-paced thriller which combines Florida history, with mystery and a dash of
romance. It gives a look into the world of archaeology with its journey into the mysteries of the past. The
characters are believable and human with Faith having to face the decision of relocating or remaining in the
environment she loves. |
