A Game of Murder
Bill Forward series #2
by Ray Alan
Detective Inspector Bill Forward is trying to ensure that jailbird’s son Terry Kennedy keeps on the straight and
narrow, but when he is mugged it makes Bill wonder what has been going on. Meanwhile, Lady Pace-Warren is giving a
party where the guests play a game of murder in the dark. But there is a real murder and her husband is killed in
his own study. With eighteen suspects to grill it looks like there won’t be an arrest any time soon, and are the
two cases linked in any way?
This is a enjoyable procedural with a classic age murder mystery at its heart, brought up to date with a modern
London setting. There are plenty of red herrings to keep the reader guessing, a fairly convoluted plot and some
engaging sleuths. If you like a good plotty detective novel then this ought to suit, a no-frills tale that doesn’t
need any gimmicks to make it worth reading. You could liken this to a plain ham sandwich, but one made with very
good ham. More, please. |
