In the Face
by Lorelei Armstrong
Jai Varent believes in helping out parents who are seeking that perfect looking child. No deformaties, just the
perfect cute little face. He has made it his mission to help those infants look better and avoid scutiny in their
future lives. Of course, perfection comes with a cost. For Jai Varent, it's the cost of having a dead body thrown
onto his property. Can Detectives MacEvoy and Cleinrath figure out the true cost of perfection before more people
are killed?
In the Face has the makings of a great screenplay, which makes sense as Lorelei Armstrong graduated from
UCLA with a MFA in screenwriting. The characters are strong. The relationship between the detectives is realistic
in the way that one plays virtual video games while the other doesn't understand the fascination with those
types of games. The murderer is clearly obsessed with perfection and is willing to do anything to achieve it. The
action is fast-paced. Everything that is needed for a good screenplay and eventual movie is here. It is obvious
that some research has been done with regard to virtual video games, a concept that plays on the theme of perfection
and the costs that some will accept to achieve it.
Overall, In the Face is an enjoyable and suspenseful novel. |
