A Killer Workout
A Fat City Mystery

by Kathryn Lilley

A Killer Workout is an entertaining mystery with charming characters. It is well thought out, well written and held my attention from beginning to end.

Kate Gallagher is an investigative reporter with Channel 12 News in Durham, North Carolina. Kate’s audience approval ratings dropped after she packed on a few extra pounds over the holidays, bringing her to a size 16. So she sets off for "Body Blast," a weekend workout boot camp located in the Great Smokies, within driving distance of Durham, and owned and run by an old high school friend, Riley.

Kate arrives at Body Blast on Friday evening and, after completing her endurance course, falls into bed exhausted. The next morning, Kate’s roommate, Marnie Taylor, is found dead with a broken neck at the foot of an obstacle wall. Turns out another woman had died while at the camp, also from a broken neck, six months earlier, after falling off of a cliff. Following that are several other incidents of thefts and fires.

Kate’s dad, Captain James Gallagher, commands South Boston’s Sixth Police District, and Kate has grown up around law enforcement. She has learned to ask the tough questions from an investigative perspective. Kate searches for answers to the tough questions, finds herself in the line of fire, and runs up against more than one brick wall while investigating the questionable incidents that have been occurring at Body Blast.
