Cassidy McCabe is a psychotherapist and her husband, Zach Moran, is a newspaper reporter covering the crime beat.
Cassidy has a habit of gravitating toward the dark side of society and so it appears to be a marriage made in heaven.
When Zach and Cassidy lease their rental condo to a schizophrenic woman, Zach is concerned but Cassidy assures
him that everything will be just fine. Then Cass gets a phone call from Delia, the frantic tenant, who rambles on
about Angels of death and a body hanging in a janitor’s closet on the top floor of the high-rise. Cassidy goes to
investigate and discovers a trace of blood in the closet and is told that one of the residents of the complex is
missing. To complicate things even further, Delia, obviously off of her meds, flees the scene. Time to call the
police.
Cassidy just can’t leave the investigation in the hands of the authorities and feels the need to check out a few
things on her own. She uncovers all sorts of strange characters throughout the building and their stories all seem
to somehow intertwine with the hazy image of the missing resident.
As if Cassidy doesn’t have enough on her plate, she has to help Zach deal with a new editor with an old axe to
grind who is making her husband’s work-life unbearable. And then there’s the matter of Starshine, Cass’s beloved
cat who seems to be developing outside interests.
This is the ninth Cassidy McCabe story. Cass is a strong character with a sense of adventure which occasionally
clouds her judgment. She always has a way of finding herself in harm's way and in this book she gets bruised pretty
badly. Some girls never learn.
It’s a well written, action packed book with a great plot and strong characters. Author Alex Matthews does her
homework too; she even knows that Heineken is one of the few beers that doesn’t use a twist-off cap. I give this
book a solid thumbs up. It will definitely keep you turning pages.
