Jack Swyteck has been a member of the Freedom Institute, an organization which defends cases of Death Row inmates,
since law school. In 1992 his latest case is Raul Fernandez, a convicted killer who is to die in the electric
chair. Jack has confidential proof that Raul is innocent. He appeals to the Governor of Florida (who incidentally
is his estranged father) to stay the execution until Raul's innocence can be proved. The governor refuses and
Raul is executed.
In 1999, the man who supposedly gave Jack proof that he himself committed the crime, rather than the man
executed for it, is blackmailing the governor over threatening to reveal that the governor let an innocent
man die.
Meanwhile Jack gets an admitted killer, Eddie Goss, free on a technicality. When Goss is killed, all evidence
points to Jack. Jack must struggle to clear himself, at the same time fighting, together with his father,
against their psychopathic tormentor who seems bent on revenge dating back to Fernandez.
This is a first novel, featuring Jack Swyteck. It is a well written, well plotted legal thriller with many
twists and turns which keep the reader guessing. There are a series of violent episodes which only add to the
suspense.
This is an excellent, easy, enjoyable read, which leaves the reader hoping for further episodes in the life
of Jack Swyteck.
